Gilbert grape Family Systems Analysis
The grapeshots are a family living in a rural and economically d ingestcast community. The members of the grapevine family currently residing in the family home consist of; mystify Bonnie Grape who is depressed and consequently morbidly obese, Amy Grape who is the eldest child and who has assumed the role of homemaker, Gilbert Grape is the eldest male sibling who is employed at a local grocery store is the provider, Arnie Grape is Gilberts younger brother; Arnie suffers from a debilitating medical match that has not only kept him from achieving age appropriate developmental milestones but also threatens to shorten his life expectancy. The youngest sibling Ellen Grape; is currently in school, plays in the band and is employed at a local ice cream parlor. The oldest sibling Larry Grape has moved away from the family. Their father Albert Grape committed suicide 17 years ago.
Assessment
Strengths and Barriers
Strengths. Despite their dysfunctions, the family has the ability to maintain stability, although not progress. It appears as if Arnies condition is playing a forged part in holding this family together, as well as the childrens desire to emotionally protect their mother.
The family is also commensurate to provide the means necessary to survive, such as food, piddle and clothing.
Barriers. There is very little positive community appointment or intervention. Although the familys desire to protect Arnie and Bonnie is a representation of their strength, it can also pose as a barrier to each other as well as the community, due to the fact that Arnie has a tendency to disobey rules which causes friction between the family and the community. Also, the children are often shielding their mother from the rib of the community because of her size.
