A novel in which the interchange character is flawed yet remains admirable is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel is set in 1920s in the America during the time of prohibition and the Jazz Age, which was a time of social and moral decay. The central character in the novel is Jay Gatsby. Gatsby has a dream of loving Daisy Buchanan, but it is tattered despite his wealth, which he gained by dint of criminal means as it give the sacknot bring him to the social standing, which he carves. Through Gatsby, Fitzgerald highlights a series of themes, most importantly the corruption of the American Dream. The story is narrated finished Nick Carra air, who is also a character in the novel. This regularity of narration is realistic as we experience events through him, such as Gatsbys tragic death at the residual of the novel.
One aspect of Gatsby that is admirable is that he is a self-made-man, who grew up from humble beginnings in the Mid-West of America. He had an absolute determination to strike wealth and luxury, and it is this determination that we learn to admire and respect end-to-end the novel. Through the writers use of characterisation he conveys Gatsbys determination.
He had to come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dreams must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it.
I personally do admire Gatsby as he showed how desperate he was to bring home the bacon wealth and the love of Daisy Buchanan. He did not care if it was through criminal means that he obtained his money, as long as it impressed Daisy. Jay Gatsby literally creates his own character and persona in the novel, as he reinvents himself as a millionaire and acts to others as if hes never known any different. His charming, affluent temper impresses many characters in The Great Gatsby however the same can not be said for Daisy Buchanan, the only person that he wants to blow away with all his achievements and expensive belongings.
