* Protagonist-Khatira Khalil; means desire. She is 12yrs old. She has a poor family and her father died in the Afghan war.
* Set in Herat-population of approx 397,456.
* Problem-Khatira wants to go to school and to work a writer but her mother wants her to stay at home to learn how to clean, cook, sow and get married. Also that she cannot give to send her to Kabul for a job.
* Khatira argues that she should get a retrieve like other richer girls.
* She is very determined to reach her end so she sets out to Kabul in hope to be offered a job as a columnist for the local anesthetic newspaper. She gets rejected.
* Khatira sleeps behind plastic bags and dustbins. She scavenges for a scrap of food.
* She survives, A some months later she goes for a job again but this while she gets it.
* Seeing as the head executor doubts her, he gives her a measuredly large amount of work to do.
* Khatira manages to finish it all.
* Flashback to home without Khatira.
* rearwards to Khatira- a few years later and she has published a novel. (talk about how successful she has come)
* At Herat, her family buy the novel and separate the author. (Khatira Khalil)
* Khatira is now 19 and she tracks down her family and friends.
