For this weeks assignment we were to ask a friend or family member bingle of the questions included in an infusion from Weiners Human motivating: Metaphors, theories, and research (1992). I chose to ask my husband the question closely which child he would save from drowning if he had to choose amid saving his superstar category old and his five year old of the same gender. After first railing rough how irresponsible it would be to take children out in a boat without proper life jackets and how any child he raised would know how to swim (he is an Eagle Scout so he was raised to take these things very seriously), he eventually settled down to answer the question. I would save the one year old. This went against the authors prediction (of which my husband had not been made aware) so I questioned him further as to why. He answered, because the one year old would not remember the harm of losing a sibling and might be saved from the finish off of the emotional scarring.
In both his video lecture and the excerpt from his book Weiner seems very sure of his ability to predict responses establish on evolutionary principles. Yet, my personal answers and that of my husband were not synchronal with his predictions. In fact, our very lifestyle flies in the memorial tablet of his theory.
We are foster parents, raising other peoples children. We have yet to have any of our own. We havent yet decided if we even wish to do so because there are already so numerous children for which to care. why make more?
