When the sun goes down by the Arctic Monkeys



I have chosen to do my try out on the Arctic Monkeys single: When
the sun goes down. The single reached calculate 1 in the UK charts in
2006 its sing along anthem chorus, punchy inscrutable grooves and
pounding grind away puzzle contrast with vocalist Alex Turners banditone
phonate and seedy lyrics about prostitution and a pimps makes the song
an instant immaculate in the rock/indie genre that occupied the charts at
the time.


The songs building is sounds simple but is a little bit more complex the songs founding could also be a rhythm with just the vocals and guitar the second part is instrumental as it introduces the sleep of the band this part is in two sections

intro 1 12 bars vocals and guitar
intro 2 4 bars
1 bar just guitar
4 bars in all instruments
poesy 4 bars just bass and drums
4 bars skipping guitars
chorus 8 bars

the song then goes seat to the 2nd intro section staring from the 1 bar part with the same guitar line and the 4 bar all instrument section
the song just repeats itself until the outro.

Rhythm The drum beat in the song is in 4/4 timing at starting line its just the
clean guitar chords of the first intro that supplies the only rhythm,
whence the second part of the intro starts with the kick drum as the
main rhythm. It is upbeat and incisive like a heart beating then a
guitar joins in at first skipping around the kick drum, increasing the
strong point and finally opening up in to stabbing motions as the section
builds unto a climax everything stops and the lead guitar provides the
only rhythm. Then all the instruments come in the kick drum and
cakehole keep a tight 4/4 beat with the hi-hats are playing eighth notes.
